Glad i’m not. Can you imagine the kind of dumb social edict that would have built up around that?

Retail Employee, on their 10th day in a row with no overtime because the schedule got thrown together at the last minute again: [briefly shining above the infrared before fading back again] Hello sir, is there anything I can help you with today?

Customer [so angry he’s strobing] How dare you! It’s bad customer service to greet me with such pitiful luminescence! I’ve never been so insulted! Where is your manager?

We like to talk about drugs like there’s this clear delineation between something that is and isn’t medicine… but it really comes down to the situation and the dosage.

For much of history and in most places, liquor was the most effective painkiller available. More recently, fentanyl started as a synthetic, medical grade painkiller. It’s still widely used across hospitals for that. Before synthetics, it was opium (otherwise known as heroin), derived from poppy plants.

  • Dubba’s third and fourth term.

It’s kinda ironic, I don’t know whether this reflects how the guy actually thought about his presidency, but when he was in office there was a lot of chatter about the kind of “legacy” his administration would have. I’m fairly certain now that he’s gonna be one of those overlooked presidents, seen as a caretaker-administration to all the shit started by GW Bush and a preamble to a lot of what Trump has ran wild with.

Maybe the history books also mention he passed a healthcare bill inspired by the Heritage Foundation and insurance lobbyists.

  • The French city of Lyon has taken a major step toward digital sovereignty by officially starting a move away from Microsoft software. . The city is gradually set to replace Microsoft Office with open source alternatives like ONLYOFFICE and switch from Windows to Linux-based operating systems to reduce dependency on proprietary offerings.

never heard of ONLYOFFICE, any good?

  • When researchers say “observe” they actually mean “measure”. And when you’re working with sub-atomic particles, “measure” isn’t some passive activity. It’s an active thing. When you measure small particles you are applying some force upon them, changing them in some way from how they would otherwise act.

Imagine if you were tasked with measuring traffic on the other side of the planet, but you had no cameras. The only tool you had was a gigantic 30 ton, satellite-networked pendulum swinging across the highway. The only way you know if there are cars on the highway is if the pendulum thwacks into one of them. That’s quantum particle physics… I think.
