I hold the following opinion and am happy to have it challenged:

    1. This is standard Orban propaganda and can be ignored.

    2. The EU does not hold enough cards to ignore the threat of a 30% tarrif as it currently relies on the US for energy, with the only (immediate term) alternative being Russia.

    3. It is incredibly sad to see the Americans blackmail a long-standing and key global ally. This will take generations to repair.

    4. It is clear the EU was not aligned on how to proceed with these negotiations. Sometimes, aligning the interest of 27 states is difficult.

To be fair I would have been fine with one-sided tariffs from the US. After all Americans are paying them. Yeah, export to the US would decline, but at least there is still the rest of the world and it’s a problem for businesses, less so for individual consumers.

I’m not fine with promising to buy trillions worth of stuff from the US though. This just makes us more dependent on them again in a time where we should get less dependent!

We should renege on that promise and fund EU alternatives anyway, in secret if necessary.

I’m with you on this one.

      Yeah, esp. Hungary.

“America has no permanent friends or enemies, only interests”

      You could have known.

But the tariffs were discussed in Davos. I don’t believe that they had real negotiations now. The rates were agreed on months or even years ago.
