I mean, context aside, tipping IS getting out of hand. I got asked to tip at an MLB baseball game, at the consessions stand. Not by the employee, but by the screen.

It listed 20% as the standard tip, to buy $14 nachos. The employee hit “no tip” before I even fully realized what had happened. Then he said “Don’t worry about that tip bullshit. We don’t see a dime of that!”

When I asked who I would have been tipping, he said “the owners”.

So I’m being asked to tip an additional $2.40 on nachos that already cost $14, but realistically should cost about $5. All to tip an owner who isn’t even present at the time of purchase.

All that being said, if the boomers have ANYTHING we should learn from, it’s tipping.
