Absolutely and more! We also have psychic powers, murder robots, friendly murder robots, vampires, genetic engineering, organized religion, semi-sentient plants, space ships, cannibals, space drugs, drugs in space, rabid woodland critters, eldritch horrors beyond comprehension, giant bugs, orbital bombardments, and also the looming threat of starvation as you watch all that you built burn. That’s all before we talk about things that the modding community has brought to the game.
To be clear, the RimWorld doesn’t force you into any one play style, and most of the things listed above can be disabled or avoided if that’s not your jam. At its core the game is trying to tell a story, it’s up to the player to help shape that story. It’s absolutely fantastic; quite literally the best $30 I’ve ever spent on a game (if we’re talking hours played, I’m just about to turn the corner on 2,000 hours (in the spirit of disclosure, a chunk of that is also spent making mods for the game)).
Depends on the music for me. Anything slow or super lyrical tends to break my focus, while more upbeat stuff I’ve heard dozens of times can help me hit a flow state (or at the very least drown out the goings on around me enough to focus on something). I’ve had good luck with video game soundtracks, like Bastion or FTL because they tend to be lively without demanding attention.
Glad I’m not the only one, because that’s exactly where I’m at. The premises almost relies on consistent yield and unconstrained growth, which nature very much does not like. Plus it doesn’t consider the opportunity cost of having to sink your time into becoming a literal farmer (nor any other recurring costs to maintain and harvest your plants).
In this case, the upfront cash is hands down the way to go. You don’t even have to do any complicated investing, just huck the mill in a jumbo CD and take the monthly payout. Going off my local credit unions (about 3.75% in dividends for a 5 year term), at $37,500 per year it probably wouldn’t be enough to quit your job, but you’d be doing an order of magnitude better than $50 per week. If you’re really looking to grow it, you could just dump the lump sum in the S&P 500 (up 95.3% from 5 years ago). (Assuming no taxes and that the dollar still has any value in the next 5 years).
I would say so, my understanding is that lasagna is just a dish made from layering wide flat noodles, sauce, and other fillings.
My mom makes a white lasagna with ground chicken, spinach, Alfredo sauce, and cheese. It’s amazing! I prefer it to a traditional lasagna, but I’m biased since I’m not a huge fan of tomatoes.
Yeah, probably. There is a village building/ upgrading component, but it doesn’t have much of an impact on gameplay. It does get pretty tedious, especially if you’re well versed in strategy. I mostly just figured I’d throw it out as a more casual one-shot to pick up on the cheap.
RTS. Kind of reminds me of the ground comabt from Star Wars Empire at War crossed with Starship Troopers. Command a squad of space marines tasked with battling an overwhelming alien horde. Pretty fun campaign (if a bit of a predictable story), plus an endless mode. Not exceedingly difficult, but definitely challenging enough to make you think tactically and keep you on your strategic toes. Somewhat limited replayability makes the sticker price hard to recommend (unless your bread and butter is RTS), but it regularly goes on sale for less than $5, which it is absolutely worth!
The whole things just a massive labor of love from a relatively small indy studio. At one point it was an RPG Maker game that was delightfully well polished in terms of story, art, and environment. After the devs got tired to rpg maker limitations, they ported the whole thing to Unity and re-released it as a free Enhanced Edition update. Childhood me played the shit out of GBA Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and it very much scratches that JRPG itch.
Rouge like turn based dungeon crawler. Certainly not new by any means, but still a pretty decent little dungeon crawler. The art is cute and the game is pretty simple to pick up, which makes it perfect for more casual play. That said if you’re a completionist, it can get a bit repetitive, but nothing too hair-pulling. Probably not worth the full sticker price, but historic sales have knocked it down to $1.49, which is a nice balance between cheap and fun (took me about 28 hours to 100%).
Hex based rouge like deck builder. If we’re taking indy gems, this one’s probably a nice Amethyst. Not quite the most polished (the game kind of just throws you in without much of a tutorial and the story’s pretty bare bones), but overall a solid B. If Slay the Spire and Into the Breach are your jams it’ll be right up your alley.
I’ve been rocking a Framework 16 for about a year now and would happily recommend it. It’s a bit more upfront, but I love knowing that I can fix or replace just about anything on it (pretty affordably too). It’s just so refreshing to not have to worry about dumb shit like an obscure power adapter or port forcing my laptop into an early retirement.
It’s not the lightest laptop I’ve ever had, but realistically not all that much different from my last gaming laptop. Now that I’m not a full time student anymore I could probably get away with one of the smaller models, but the form factor is pretty nice.
Overall, no major complaints!
