I refuse to believe they didn’t do this for their benefit. Especially at the price tag. I feel the same about Proton. The minute the government knocks without a warrant they’ll still turn you over.

It’s also like $100 a month.

Catalyst@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.ml•DNSNet: an open-source system wide ad and tracker blocker for Android (no root)3·3 days agoRethink also has Tor built in as a proxy. If you use signal you can change to the open-source Molly and then route Molly through Tor. Then good fucking luck collecting info. Then also good luck having anyone to talk to. But otherwise yes Rethink is better.
Catalyst@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.ml•DNSNet: an open-source system wide ad and tracker blocker for Android (no root)31·3 days agoThis is my favorite app that I never got to use but inspired me to learn how to do DNS configurations to work with traditional VPN’s like Mullvad and iVPN. They have built in DNS filters that are putrid compared to DNSNet. But a DNS can’t run on its own so it casts itself like a VPN so the system runs through it and the DNS then filters the system of trackers. If you don’t think you need this and it’s just Greek then download App Warden and run a scan. That ain’t normal Comrade. Stop normalizing the end. Anyways I strayed. When the DNS casts itself as a VPN it prevents real VPN’s from connecting, leaving your IP vulnerable. No tor, no VPN. So I discovered NextDNS and after a month I learned how to use private DNS in the connection settings of Android to point it to NextDNS and then how to configure the custom DNS option in my VPN (Mulvad) to also point to NextDNS. Then I setup tor in the background. I hope this helps someone skip a month of work and can focus that time on being happy. Sorry I can’t direct you to each step I talked about. It was a LOT of work.
I’m guessing you also don’t use aurora store. If you did you’d see the majority of all the apps mentioned in internet web searches all have ads and trackers. That’s why none of the web results worked for me. As you’ll see none of the web searches mention TorrServe. They’re not accurate.
Details were left out. I’ve actually been working on a del googling project for two months. Off and on I’ve looked for open source, free streaming. My time has been split between working on anonymity and security for doing journalism work. So I’d say the four or five times, probably more, I looked into streaming over those two months was about half an hour or so, I wouldn’t find what I was after and I’d get back to more serious stuff. The last two days were the same. Turns out I had the app the entire time. TorrServe Matrix off F-Droid. I mistook it as a torrent downloader. But when I looked the past few days, I more so worked on music streaming, it just turned up apps that all had trackers on them on the play store. I couldn’t find anything on F-Droid because I already had it. I left all these details out on my OP.
Bless you and thank you!!! Getting it now. I’m also working with TorrServe Matrix now.
I’m looking at TorrServe now.
Okay I see where you’re coming from and how I left out some big details that would have helped. Yeah I researched for a while now and everything charges or has trackers built into the app. Like Stremio. What I was looking for I found. TorrServe Matrix off F Droid with the torrent search app. I was after something open source with no trackers built into the app.
Yeah that bothers me that it isn’t giving back to the torrent itself. Just leeching to stream.
Yes I did. For several days. So I decided to asks here for different answers from people who are privacy and open source focused. Why even make a comment like this?
Thank you! Looks like Quasar with Kodi is the way! I was looking for Android but desktop is also good!
Stremio I saw. But it didn’t look open source and it had trackers listed on the aurora store. I’ll check it out.
Just search Migu on F-Droid/Droidify. The URL link box went away when I added the photo. I’m on thunder which is a very new app and still adding features.
Yeah they’re intending for that to be used by Graphene users with play services sandboxes.
What’s the app directly above Orbot and Mullvad?
Thanks for the recommendation! Just tried it after you mentioned metrolist and it’s working perfectly. Kreate kept crashing and stopping.
Holy shit… HA!
