There’s plenty of other stuff I simply won’t buy because I don’t want it enough to overcome my anxiety.
If the chatbots are reliable, I’d much prefer them in most shopping scenarios. So this makes sense to me.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto News@lemmy.world•Project 2025 group wants huge changes to policy to encourage more kidsEnglish3·5 days agoWhat could possibly spook The Heritage Foundation of all groups to make this tiny leftward shift just a few years after their big evil strategy was released? They’re still an evil organization, but they’re that last group I’d expect to say the government needs to spend more money on more people.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What in your country/area is totally normal but visitors get excited for?English1·10 days agoYeah I didn’t mean to imply they’re all exclusive to where I live, but the opossum anecdote is actually from a person I met from Ohio funny enough.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You're about to be transformed into an animal and cast in the leading role of a children's television program. What animal would you be want to be turned into for the show? English5·10 days agoI’d wanna be a parrot. It’s an easy fit for a kids show. They can fly and they live for like 80 years which is probably better than I’ll do as a human. Sounds perfect to me.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What in your country/area is totally normal but visitors get excited for?English8·10 days agoI live in the US northeast coast in a touristy area. People have been surprised to see: white beach sand, seashells, docks, boats, seagulls, deer, opossums. I could go on. I get most people don’t live coastal, so none of these reactions surprised me except the white sand one. Apparently a lot of lakes in the mainland just have dirt at their shores. Never would’ve guessed.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How long did it take you to get used to glasses?English3·14 days agoI started wearing glasses at 17. I technically didn’t need to wear them all the time, but I just did because it was immediately much more comfortable on my eyes. I have a bent nose from a break and I got a little irritation from it, but the relief on my eyes was easily worth it.
My eyes aren’t super bad, I can actually be okay without them for most of the day. Neither eye is super bad, but I have a high astigmatism factor or whatever they call it. That makes my depth perception really funky and I can’t read anything at a distance.
I can’t really remember what difficulty I had at first besides the my nose hurting and getting used to the frames being in view. It definitely never made me nauseous though. You should probably talk to your eye dr about that.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Cooking at home vs eating out vs delivery: what’s your situation?English2·16 days agoI generally cook at home and maybe 1-3 times a week I go out to eat or pick up food. I’m anosmic (no sense of smell, very limited sense of taste), so I struggle to cook whole meals for myself and pretty much can’t cook anything other people can eat. That means what I “cook” at home is almost exclusively simple food like sandwiches, pasta, and frozen/premade stuff. I never get delivery, but I live in an area where I’m a 10-20 mins drive away from like 100 places selling all kinds of food.
The post isn’t about locally hosted models amigo.
And suddenly we’re talking about locally hosted models I guess? You’re just contorting your argument and cherry picking the single part of the deeply problematic technology you could possibly defend. It’s disingenuous and you’re just poorly covering it up with condescension.
I can see that you’re trying to mirror my comment, I just fail to see the point you’re trying to make. Cool, you know people who have a somewhat legitimate use for the unprofitable, unreliable technology that’s built on rampant theft and consumes obscene amounts of power and water. And?
Me and the homies all hate ai. The only thing people around me seem to use ai for is essentially just snapchat filters. Those people couldn’t muster a single fuck about the harms ai has done though.
I mean either option practically never happens to me.
Of the two, right is worse. The real killer though is when you take a long shit and it slaps your balls as it falls over.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s the most ridiculous “life hack” you’ve ever heard of?English4·22 days agoI’m really not sure what it is. It works surprisingly well and quickly which makes me think it’s more likely some kind of mechanical turk thing than ai, but when you drive up you talk to what’s clearly some kind of tts thing that pushes all the upselling stuff. The upselling is annoying and you have to practically shout no at it multiple times, but it does get the order right just from natural speech.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What’s the most ridiculous “life hack” you’ve ever heard of?English43·23 days agoWhenever my friend goes to one of those drive thrus with the ai ordering thing, he asks for 10,000 cups of water to get a human to talk to.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Your Lemmy/Reddit/Fetlife/etc profile is tied to your real name and browsable. How screwed are you?English2·26 days agoActually more people in my life know about my “intimate preferences” than they know my opinions on what I post online. Everyone wants to know my kinks, but nobody wants to listen to me whine about the government and corpos. smh my head
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How diverse are your sources of information?English5·30 days agoI don’t really have an ism. I’m not well read on any of them tbh, but I think all forms of government are fundamentally unstable just because of human nature. I just want whoever or whatever’s in charge to help people and work towards equality. I think the left generally let’s “perfect” get in the way of “better”, so I try to avoid ism conversations.
FRYD@sh.itjust.worksto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How diverse are your sources of information?English62·30 days agoDiverse how? I get most of my news from like 5 podcasts and from Lemmy. They’re pretty biased towards the left though. Lemmy is probably the closest to neutral I get.
I’m not a huge metal head, but “Trapped Under Ice” by Metallica is probably my favorite. I’d strongly recommend the entire Ride the Lightning album though. Pretty much every song is great.
