Makes me more interested in Portland being a possible city to move to when I get out of my red state. If I can get a job there.
Seems very much like concentrating on voters like those who supported both AOC and Trump. Supposedly fine with progressive policies but just wanting someone “real” who is seemingly willing to fight for them.
Also it’s always so fascinating to see how articles like this frequently talk about these Trump voters who are winnable because they support a ton of progressive policies but many continue to vote for Republicans despite them wanting to work against those very policies they supposedly support. The cognitive dissonance is truly astounding.
He was at the RNC last year and ripped off his shirt to reveal a MAGA or Trump shirt (I think it was one of those but it was definitely pro Trump even if it wasn’t directly MAGA or Trump text). So he was definitely an asshole. Even for more reasons than just being MAGA.
She said she wanted the minimum wage increased to “at least $15”: https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/23/politics/federal-minimum-wage-harris-trump
She talked about how she wanted to invest more in infrastructure in the debate when talking about the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, saying it was a good start but there needs to be more. Here’s a link to details about how that would look (largely investment in new green energy productions and building millions of affordable homes which she talked multiple times): https://www.mintz.com/insights-center/viewpoints/2236/2024-09-11-_024-pre-election-analysis-infrastructure
She talked about raising the top tax rate to 39.6% and introduce a unrealized gains tax on people who have more than 100 million in unrealized gains in the stock market, as well as an increase in the core capital gains tax (while not a “millionaires tax” it’s definitely something more likely to be passed as it impacts the most rich people out there as opposed to some that might have just gotten lucky and saved enough to get a million or two dollars. Could be better but still to say she didn’t support taxing the rich is BS.). Here’s a thing breaking down all her tax policies https://apps.urban.org/features/2024-candidates-tax-policy/
She literally was in the administration that was using the power of medicare to negotiate prices for 10 prescription drugs to be lower. And always framed it as “the first 10” instead of the only 10. Here’s here literally statement last august with that same phrasing: https://bidenwhitehouse.archives.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/08/15/statement-from-vice-president-kamala-harris-on-lower-prescription-drug-prices/
Here’s an article about how the DNC platform, and thus Harris’ platform, would have pushed for a lot of new investments in public education (including universal Pre-K and being against “school choice” BS) which would have required increased federal funding: https://www.edweek.org/policy-politics/where-does-kamala-harris-stand-on-education-inside-the-2024-democratic-platform/2024/08
The Biden Administration that she was apart of was incredibly pro-union and implemented multiple rules in the federal government that made it easier to join a union and there was no reason to think she would be any different especially since she openly talked about how important unions are and was the only candidate to be pro the dock worker strike: https://www.politico.com/news/2024/10/02/harris-striking-dockworkers-trump-00182203
Now, If I can count correctly, her supporting 6 is a lot more than “not a single one of those things” and is also a majority of the 9 that were listed.
Harris had the majority of that on her platform and no one seemed to even care, acting as if she’s literally just Trump lite despite being incredibly far from that.
What they’re gonna do is redraw all the maps of the states they are in control of, and eliminate ALL Democrat districts. Every single one. They’ll do this and there will be challenges declaring it illegal but by the time it actually comes before a court it’ll be too late to redraw so they’ll just go ahead with the illegal maps and then Democrats won’t just not win the house, they will lose 30+ seats. All because the Republicans are fascists and people refused to vote for democratic candidates last election cycle.
They might, might, leave one or two blue districts per state, but otherwise they will be gone. This is the plan in Ohio and in Florida, it’s happening. It doesn’t matter that it’s BS.
Anyone who helped Trump win, including those who helped Harris lose, will be responsible for the downfall of the American democratic system.
Guess it’s time for some successions.
I mean I think trying to say that him saying that is shitty is kinda disingenuous. The guy was born in 1982, grew up in South Bend, Indiana, and probably realized he was gay during the 90s, a time that we, the LGBT community, were still reeling from and dealing with the AIDS crisis. I have no doubt a ton of queer kids back then thought the same as him because they just wanted to be normal and not thought of as monsters.
Plus his parents worked at Notre Dame, a Catholic university. So he was probably around a whole lot of not very accepting Catholics during his childhood.
What the point of that story was at the time was that he had to accept who he was, and that it was okay to be gay. That’s a thing a lot of queer people have to go through.
