  • That would be quite optimistic, but this is something I’ve noticed at multiple restaurants myself. I saw the tip “suggestions” were not accurate so I checked to see what numbers they might have been using and tried the after tax amount etc, but nope the numbers are just inflated artificially. It’s happened with or without alcohol on the tab, with and without sale items, and I don’t ever really get anything “comped” unless it’s a sauce on the side or something. I wouldn’t say it’s a scam, but I did roll my eyes the first time I noticed it.

  • At least where I am, there are some important and influential positions that are on a volunteer basis, and literally all you do is email someone in the town, say “I’m interested in this board/committee”, and they’re like “cool we meet every other Wednesday, see you then”.

I definitely encourage anyone who is pissed off at feeling powerless to look at your town or city’s website, see what boards and committees might interest you, and start showing up.

  • Chocolate. I absolutely adore chocolate, but only good chocolate. I’ve sought out and nibbled on hundreds of different bars and blends. Anything under 70% dark just doesn’t do it for me. I’ve melted down chocolate bars and mixed in baking chocolate and reset it so it would be darker.

Whitman’s? Russel Stover? Hershey? Reeses? Miss me with that please.

If you get the chance to try a single origin Ecuadorian dark chocolate it’s amazing, complex, fruity and floral. All of the pretentious stuff people describe about wine is genuinely there in chocolate.

  • Agree 100%, I make my own home made ice cream and it’s like a completely different dessert than storebought, but Talenti Gelato is a quite serviceable alternative I wouldn’t ever say no to. Generally ice cream is like bread: grocery stores will have a poor shadow of it, a good shop that makes it in house is the best if you get it fresh, and making it yourself is a way to get the good stuff cheap.

  • If you have 3d design experience, along with doing 3d print files you could also sell assets on sites like CG trader or Turbosquid. You could make smartmaterials/gltfs or other asset bundles and list them and maybe start getting a passive income. Also consider offering a commercial license option for your 3d prints, I understand that’s usually where artists end up making more 3d print sales because people will justify the cost by thinking they will sell the prints, and often they don’t.

  • I don’t think that’s a fair assessment of Guild Wars 2. It was not a true sequel to Guild Wars 1 but it’s a decent game in its own right. I can see that if you’re playing a great city builder game and they announced a sequel, you would be thrown if that sequel was a 4x instead. But in this analogy, it’s a damn good 4x and maybe even the best amongst its contemporaries. Plus the original game is still there in all of its charm and originality, they’ve kept the servers running this long and seem to plan on keeping on doing so until no one is playing.

I was an incredibly angsty teenager, mad at the world and hostile to just about everyone by default. Apathetic, grumpy, and uninterested in physical activity or the things I liked as a preteen.

After having a baby and getting very little sleep for 6 months I recognized some of my old patterns. Turns out, it wasn’t just part of being a teen, I was chronically sleep deprived. I was up at 6am most days back then, when I would sleep until 1pm on weekends. I think a lot of teens are unfairly characterized as angry and defiant when they’re operating on half or a quarter of the sleep they need.
