Uber started this shit years ago. If you’re desperate, they screw you. You’re well off, they screw you. You’re in the middle of nowhere, they screw you. There’s a holiday/event, they screw you. You’re one of their drivers, they screw you daily.
I can’t recall if they ever got sued over it, but they’re still here.
They don’t need the National Guard anymore because ICE just got a ridiculous budget.
The vast majority of it is indeed poor. Sure there are pockets of billionaires but most people in CA are struggling. Even more so now than ever before. Especially when you factor the cost of rent and other living expenses.
Is there a hashtag these people are using?
My best guess would be the fear of retaliation.
I don’t think this country has that kind of time to gamble with.

Sometimes, even when you know it’s a trap, it’s still worth doing the thing.

This was my perception as well. Then I moved a couple states away and suddenly everything’s 24/7 like the old days. I suppose it’s regional.
And the “sale” prices are just what they normally were 6 months ago.
