It really depends on the hardware. Some might have, most don’t.
You will have issues with most peripheals as they often require some form of firmware blob. Wifi, Bluetooth and lots of USB devices needs them.

yeah, €1500 for an i7 with 32 GB RAM and 1 TB SSD is just a bit too high compared to a ThinkPad that runs linux pretty well. :D

I/O errosr usually indicate that the drives are about to fail. I’d start looking for new drives and transfer data as soon as possible.
