23 hours agoIf i wanted root i wouldnt be using GOS, but its been years since root was needed for much other than than debloating devices without custom roms. There are custom roms that have root if its really what you want.

Your comment doesnt make any sense, i wouldnt want root access from GrapheneOS, that would break pretty much all of the security benefits.
The point is to not need to use expliots and break security just to configure your device how you want in the first place.
As a security and privacy minded person im glad i CAN keep automatic updates enabled on GrapheneOS without having to worry about some crappy forced features being added.
I see windows users have to disable them too, its so crazy to me that people tollerate this stuff instead of just switching… Like yeah automatic updates that break things are annoying but “linux is too complicated”, so instead of learning to adapt to a new system, you adapt to just accepting that you dont fully get to control your devices a they will get progressively worse until eventually you have to get a whole new device. SMH

Its mostly solid blue state leftists who refuse to vote dem. Them voting would literally make no difference at all in the national outcome, and when it would have mattered in primaries the democrat party decided they knew better anyway.
Unless you think all the people vocally refusing to vote dem are in swing states, your problem is with the rigged primary and electoral collage system, not leftist in places like california who dont want to support team blue.

112·5 days agoWhy wouldn’t they be able to make a profit? The demand for housing wouldnt be any lower, they just can’t increase rent above what it was.
The barrier of entry would be lowered by greedier land lords deciding to sell rather than not being able to raise rent, so people who are slightly less greedy and willing to make only maybe a 300% profit instead of a 1000% profit would take over. Corporate landlords get flushed out to make room for smaller mom & pop owners.
Seems like that would lead to a lot more affordable houses becoming available to people who couldnt previously own them.
Youd end up getting more landlords anyway because the barrier of entry would be lowered for that as well.
All rent freeze does is caps profits for existing landlords, and they make enough profit as it is.
Less people wanting to provide the “service” of rent seeking? Could you elaborate on why that wouldnt be a good idea?

4·10 days agoUbo lite seems to work just fine for my needs, which is blocking yt ads. Everything else vivaldi or adguard catches
You cant buy grapheneos preloaded on anything and doing so would be pretty foolish since it could be backdoored. GraphenOS is aimed at people who value security and privacy, you dont let some rando flash your phone if you value those things.

Ignorance would be admitting you dont know enough about android to develope the app for it.
Making the claim it wouldnt be safe to use Android at all is just a flat out lie on their part. Id be very cautious about trusting an app developed by such people.

Their claims about push notifications on Android compared to iOS are completely false. Both Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) and the Apple Push Notification service (APNs) function in a similar way with similar privacy. However, Android does not force using FCM and apps can use other push systems.
No app required
0·22 days agoWhy not just stop using spotify? You cant possibly stream enough to cost them more then they earn in a month from you using it. Even on mute they can still count you as an active user when it comes to selling ads and promiting themselves.
If you really want to hurt spotify, use one of the services like Soundiiz that lets you export your lists and library, grab a 2 month trial of tidal for $2 and point tidal-dl to download it all for offline use. Get yourself a nice dedicated music player like a classic ipod running rockbox. If space is an issue convert from flac to opus.
If you really, really, want to hurt spotify do what i did and take the above instructions and then also spin up your own FunkWhale pod so everyone can also enjoy that music without giving corporations like spotify a dime.
We arent going beat corporations by using their products “too much”, the way to beat them is to replace them with self hosted alternatives.
Rooting modern android essentially breaks the security model on a system wide level. Im not disagreeing with your sentiment, if someone wants to do that, they should be able to, but its not something needed on modern android for backups or anything else.
5+ years ago it was a different situation, apps like titanium backup back in the day would require root but in 2025 this is no longer the case with modern android versions.
The important feature is bootloader unlocking, if you have access to that then you have root access. Just as you wouldnt stay logged in as root on a PC its also not what you should be doing on a phone.
