But I agree with the general sentiment of your comment. Nearly all of the people crying about immigration had ancestors in another country, probably on a different continent. Some are only second- or third-generation Americans. They don’t see the irony.

GenX checking in. I know so many Boomers who got factory jobs with pensions out of high school and stayed with them for 35 or 40 years. They were able to raise families on a single income (or maybe have a spouse who worked part-time). They had nice homes, new-ish cars, and could afford to take their families on vacations. They built equity and were able to upgrade to McMansions in the late '90s and early '00s.

Meanwhile, my friends and I have advanced degrees and we have to look for new jobs every 5 years just to try to beat inflation.

Our parents climbed the ladder our grandparents built, and then they pulled it up after them. At this point, none of us can afford to quit working to care for them as they age, so anything we would have inherited will likely be paid to nursing homes.

It’s based on the amount you make on average over a certain number of years of working. If the amount reported and taxed as Social Security income is less than your actual income, it can affect your payments.

I have said for a long time that the number of bisexual people must be huge. All of these right-wingers seem to be equally attracted to men and women, so they’re obviously bi and choosing to ignore part of their own sexuality.

There’s some nuance not present on this map.

In some places, the age of consent listed on the map only applies if the older partner is reasonably close in age to the younger one.

In Kentucky, for example, the age listed is 16. However, there are age-based restrictions that stipulate that a 16-year-old is not legally capable of consenting to a sexual relationship with someone more than 10 years older.

Other states require closer age gaps of maybe 3 or 4 years for 16-year-olds.

Seconded. Really, I thought all of the casting was really well done.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first season. Part of the fun was the mystery, which is why I don’t think the second season was as good. The show tried too hard to explain and it got a little bit too mired down in its own metaphysics for my taste.

I’m not sure I’ll watch any more of it.
