smiletolerantly@awful.systemsto Technology@lemmy.world•‘If I switch it off, my girlfriend might think I’m cheating’: inside the rise of couples location sharingEnglish14·3 days agoWhen we need to know each others location, we share it via element / matrix. Our own server, so no third party.
Happens maybe four times a year.
(Also, do you just always have location services enabled?? IMO it’s a battery drain, I pretty much only enable it for this and while I need to navigate)
smiletolerantly@awful.systemsto News@lemmy.world•Trump Is Really Asking People to Venmo to Pay Off the National Debt1·3 days agoFair. Though also, english isn’t my first language.
smiletolerantly@awful.systemsto News@lemmy.world•Trump Is Really Asking People to Venmo to Pay Off the National Debt31·3 days agoIt might, very very slightly go down. But the way you have to think about a media is this:
Put all 342 million Americans in a single line, sorted by net worth from west to east in increasing order. Find the person standing in the middle, i.e. person 171 million. That’s the median net worth.
Now remove the top 10 richest people, i.e.
behead the snakepolitely ask the 10 people standing easternmost to leave the line. Now to find the new median, go back to the original median person and move five to the left. That’s the new median. Most likely, you’d have a negligible amount of change. Maybe a couple of bucks.
ALso note that for this it does not matter just HOW rich the richest persons are.

Median, not medium
No, even QR I can only accept as an option, as in completely optional. I’m out and about without a phone quite frequently.
Nah. We phone 1-2x/week, these are very specific “sorry to ask this again, I have already put in the cable, but now what” questions.
OK, maybe I was a bit harsh. Everyone being on lemmy personally has no excuse, their parents might :D
My mom calls me every 3-4 weeks to ask how she can copy photos from her phone to her laptop. She’s been doing that for years and years, she should know the process by now, it’s really not hard at all.
I installed Bitwarden for her 2 years ago on her phone and in Firefox, she hasn’t needed a single support call about it and actually transferred two decades worth of logins two Bitwarden by herself.
My point is, if my mom can do it, then you have no excuse.
smiletolerantly@awful.systemsto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are password managers secure to use?31·9 days agoCan’t believe noone mentioned this yet:
Any good password manager encrypts and decrypts your password file client side. The server should not even have the ability to read your passwords.
Even in the case of a leak of all of the server’s data, as long as your password for the manager was good, you’ve got nothing to worry about.
I’d say pick a PW manager where both client and server are open source. Pick a strong passphrase. Enjoy.
There so much misogyny oozing out of your comment, I think I’ll go disinfect my screen now.
Hope your friend gets convicted for sending unsolicited explicit content 👍

Honestly, I’m gappy for my fellow Germans that so many are able to live by themselves! It’s a good sign that fewer people need to share rent.

“Not understanding what is happening” in regards to AI is NOT “we don’t jniw how it works mechanically” it’s “yeah there are so many parameters, it’s just not possible to make sense of / keep track of them all”.
There’s no awareness or thought.

smiletolerantly@awful.systemsto politics @lemmy.world•Florida lawmakers sound alarm over plans ‘to send pregnant women & children’ to ‘Alligator Alcatraz’2·22 days agoThat’s a good faith interpretation, but I’ve never seen a comment like this that isn’t whining “but what about men”.
The comment is saying: “oh, so we are pointing out that sending people to places like these is bad when it’s happening to women, but not when it’s happening to men”, which is whataboutism, derailment, and a misreading of the article.
smiletolerantly@awful.systemsto politics @lemmy.world•Florida lawmakers sound alarm over plans ‘to send pregnant women & children’ to ‘Alligator Alcatraz’61·22 days agoSaid who, besides you?
No, sending men there is not OK; but yes, sending pregnant people and children there is indeed even worse than sending men and women in good health there.
Glad to have cleared that up for you! As soon as you’ve worked on your reading comprehension, I recommend looking up the term “straw-man argument”.
IDK man. AfD are the ones raging against “political correctness” here. Dude decided to not be politically correct and label the Nazis Nazis.
