You can mitagate this as many websites do but an election site(as weak as an online petition may be) I would say is esspesuly sensitive. Also if you take on the responsibility of gathering signitorys data to verify the legitimacy of the vote. I know it’s not a solution but I would say self hosting would not be wise.
