4G capable “landline” phones have been a thing for ages and I see them every once in a while. No touch screen, just buttons like a traditional one

Why? At least here the self checkout gets exactly the same info from me as the regular one

For me it’s the fact that my cast iron stove takes ages to heat up
At least here in Finland, 3G was recently shut down but 2G is still alive, too much pre-4G legacy equipment still in wide use.
