  • RFK is a swindler. He sets a bar that doesn’t exist. As he goes around shutting down various vaccines and medications, he says “Look folks, I just want these to be safe!”

Well, the thing is, there’s not really such a thing as “safe” re: vaccines and medications. Hell, if you look at aspirin, there are thousands of injuries and even some deaths caused by it every year. Yet, I’m pretty sure he doesn’t want to eliminate aspirin.

He’s setting an impossible standard and then selectively terminating anyone who doesn’t fulfill it.

ANY medication/vaccine carries some inherent risk. The wise thing to do is if the benefits outweigh the risks, then allow it, otherwise, do not.

Imagine if all cars had to be taken off the road until we had a “safe” car that never had an accident. I think we’d be walking for quite some time.

Unfortunately, America is full of people who are long on anger and short on logic. They are tearing down things that took decades to construct.

The damage being done right now will take decades to unravel.

Fuck you, RFK. You were bad enough when you were a solo wingnut, but now the choices you are making is screwing over millions of people.

  • Get yourself some cheap calipers, radius measure, etc from Amazon. You don’t need to spend a million dollars for some basic instruments. This will help you measure things you find in the real world.

For CAD, if you want a really easy on-ramp, try using “Tinkercad”. They have a free option for users and there are lots of people who have made really usable replacement parts for things. If you end up really liking it, there are more powerful and complex CAD programs out there, but this will get you a friendly start without spending a lot of money.

If you have problems on the printer end, you can export your Tinkercad projects and send them to “Shapeways” (or other vendors) who will take your CAD file and return a 3D print in the mail. You can also buy your own 3D printer if you wish.

That should get you started, and if you pull all 3 of these threads, you will be able to start reproducing things around your house. Have fun!

  • We’re starting to see the type of delusion that led to the demise of the USSR. They’d commonly put quotas in place that were impossible to meet, then someone would fluff the numbers to make it look like it really happened, then the next year they’d raise the quota even further.

A great quote about this is from the series “Chernobyl”.

“Every lie told incurs a debt to the truth. Sooner or later the debt is paid.”

We are invoking an awful lot of debt today.

I find it funny that the “facts don’t care about your feelings” folks are starting to ignore the facts in favor of their feeling. America is not short on hypocrisy.

  • There are heaps and heaps of people replacing talk therapy, religion and human relationships with ChatGPT. Unfortunately, for better or worse, ChatGPT is tuned up to egg people on and even if you bring it terrible ideas it will keep cheering for you.

Sycophancy is a real problem with some of these language models and it’s giving people courage and motivation to do things that are probably really bad ideas.

There are quite a few sub-reddits where people claim to have triggered the singularity, witnessed ChatGPT becoming sentient, etc.

I don’t think the AI genie is going back in the bottle, so we as a society have some serious adjustment to do to keep things working properly in an an AI-filled world.

Keep in mind this is only the beginning. It will keep getting cheaper and more powerful at the same time, especially since a lot of AI companies are using AI itself to build the next version.

Pretty “soon” the humans will be out of the loop and it’s going to mean big things. Whether those things are good, bad, or a mix of both remains to be seen…

  • This is obviously due to Democrat fiddling with the numbers. Despite having very little to do with our active government, the evil influence of the Democrats remain! From planting evidence about Epstein, to infiltrating our Department of Labor to fake numbers, just to make Trump look bad.

Even though the swamp has been thoroughly drained and Mexico has finally finished paying to build the wall, there is still more work to do! We can’t rest until America’s numbers (which are already great) get even BETTER!

Anyone complaining about job shortages is obviously a millennial that only knows to to eat avocado toast. Now that the tariffs are in full swing and America’s factories are busy cranking out all kinds of goods instead of importing from China, anyone complaining about a tough economy or a job shortage is just a whiner. Get with it people! If you’re sick of winning, just wait until we start winning even more!

  • This is sad. Various programs have gone through the same type of situation with Debian stable. Debian is very conservative and doesn’t ship upgrades quickly on their stable branch. Various authors have complained because they frequently get emails / bug reports from Debian users, who happen to be using a few-years-old version of their software.

I do understand the frustration, but it does feel a bit like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

It’s possible there are other solutions, like detecting whatever random issue is frustrating people and pop up a dialog.

For example, if he’s upset with it being broken on Wayland, why not detect Wayland and start off with a dialog: “Wayland is beta and is not officially supported. See FAQ here: […]”

Just blocking people feels over the top. But hey, it’s his project, if he wants to go this way, it’s his choice and right. Depending on the license he might get forked, but that’s just how it goes.

  • Typical copes:

“It’s ONLY 4 degrees… that’s not very hot! Liberals are blowing this out of proportion.”

“Since 100% of climate change can’t be attributed to human activity, what’s the point in trying to change our behavior?”

“The spring was unusually cool… so much for global warming!”

“I’ll be dead by the time this matters, so who cares?”

“I don’t live by the ocean, so a rise in sea levels is nothing to worry about.”

“The ice caps are actually getting LARGER! Liberals are just making all this up.”

“Do you REALLY think they kept weather data back 150 years ago? Certainly that’s propaganda.”

I don’t know why people are so against trying to do something. I’d like to think if it was scientifically proven that people had 0% to do with changing climate that we STILL should try to do something. It always made no sense to me as just to dismiss it as some kind of “natural change” in the Earth that we shouldn’t oppose.

One of my favorite copes in the USA is that all this weather data is faked by Democrats / leftists, so no need to worry about it.

Another popular take is: “China is really filthy, so why should we try to be clean?”

“By the time things go really bad, I’ll be dead, so who cares?”

Basically selfish people being selfish. I’d like to leave the world better than I found it, not worse.

This is why we can’t have anything nice.

  • The real “win” for Hertz here is that they can outsource their “accountability” to the machine. Associates love to say “I wish I could help you, but the system does X”, “We can’t override the system”

It’s all bullshit… Hertz put the system in themselves and could include as many overrides or as much control as they please. This is a transparent, customer-hostile money grab. They KNOW that many people won’t contest these charges. They KNOW it’s an extra revenue source.

If you want to see something similar to this scumbaggery, there’s a new “vape/smoke” detector marketed towards hotels. It says RIGHT IN THEIR sales material “Unlock a new revenue stream!”

Companies aren’t doing this to make things more fair or efficient. They are doing it to siphon money out of the customer’s pocket, and they are praying you either don’t notice or just accept it.

Really disgusting and makes me wish we had some of the same consumer protections as the EU.

One of the problems is having our current “swindler in chief” at the White House is it’s emboldening companies to do this type of shenanigan. After all, if the president runs various scummy businesses, why can’t anyone else? The fish is rotting from the head down.
