While Kimmel has returned to television, about 23% of U.S. households with televisions were unable to watch, with around 70 ABC affiliates operated by Sinclair and Nexstar still refusing to air the program.

Kimmel pressures Trump, Trump pressures ABC, ABC capitulates, subscribers pressure ABC, ABC capitulates, ABC affiliates revolt, shareholders pressure ABC…

I didn’t hear about the affiliates revolting, siding with Trump though, that’s an interesting tidbit.

Sinclair has been talked about now and then for a while for their right wingedness. John Oliver has some stuff on them and their control over local media markets.

Nexstar is sucking up as they want federal regulations removed, as they’re at the legal limit for how many stations they can own to avoid a media monopoly. They want to merge with another local media company and double their amount of stations, giving them control of the majority of the country’s local stations.

This is why these 2 groups are helping to try to take out the president’s enemies.

Its time to break up the monopoly there and the fcc should not be allowing an exception for their merger, which puts them over double the max limit if owned affiliates. Maybe a protest to the fcc is needed

If anyone claiming to be progressive ends up in charge again anytimes soon, they better not act short on ideas on what needs a major overhaul. Things like this or Democrats being fine with Republican immigration control better not fly under the radar anymore.

Imagine a Democratic version of Project 2025.

It’d be requests for equality, free education, healthcare, universal income.

There’s simply no way that would be allowed to happen.

We definitely need something to enshrine rights better here. I’m not sure what, as I don’t have a lot of faith in the systems in place nor the people in them as it stands now. I’m also not really for pushing things through by decree/executive order as it both isn’t permanent and feels to authoritarian for my tastes.

There should be inarguable places we can start: civil rights, food safety, public health, protecting the environment, limiting control businesses have on persona lives, etc, but the political divide seems unconquerable right now.

It took major bad events around the world for The New Deal to be done, and for anti-New Deal people, it probably felt like what progressives are feeling now, hence conservatives have been fighting against it for the last 90 years.

I want to help people, even the assholes, but it doesn’t feel people are ready for that kind of thing yet. Conservatives hate progressives, progressives are gatekeeping other progressives… I don’t know how to fix this stuff. I’m sticking to fixing animals for the time being. They need it, and it gives me positivity during these times. Otherwise I try to stay informed and make sure my household is safe and provided for. I think it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Those might be the best weapon for anyone minimally trained. They have good reach but aren’t super heavy. It’s hard to lose grip with both hands. And it’s obvious how they work and simple to execute – keep the sharp end away from yourself and close to your enemy.

Honestly, those would be a great symbol for a group protesting the status quo.

It was all about the affiliates. The FCC made threats, Nexstar pre-emoted Kimmel. In response to Nexstar, ABC suspended Kimmel. Then Sinclair piled on, trying to get Kimmel fired.

Yes, but it was in their own interest. Nexstar is trying to get the FCC to increase the ownership limits to allow them to own 80 stations instead of the 40 now allowed. Also ABC will require FCC and DOJ approval for its purchase of NFL Media and NFL gaining 10% ownership over ESPN. So they didn’t need much pressure.
