The show is quite fun even if uneven but it suffers from the usual autism being off the charts on stereotypical traits without any nuance. I wonder if we’ll ever see an accurate representation of autism on TV, other than The Rehearsal, that is.

I found it quite a charming show but I haven’t watched that many shows with autistic leads to see the tropes. It did seem to be trying to present a sympathetic portrayal.

The issue with current autistic leads in series like Good Doctor or Extraordinary Attorney Woo is that they are almost level 3 (aka profound autism) while also being savants which doesn’t really represent much of autistic people (and savants are even less). I don’t want to marginalise those people but they’re quite overrepresented in media about autism while also being less than 10% of all autistic people and that leads to regular people being really confused as to what autism is.

I think this is what’s behind something that’s almost a meme by now among autistic people - when you tell someone you’re autistic without flapping your hands and without difficulty in stringing a coherent sentence you’re going to be replied with „but you don’t look autistic”. This also leads to many people going undiagnosed and without support, sometimes for their entire lives.
