Wtf were they thinking?
“Bro, bro, listen to me just for one second, this shit is hilarious!” - some rich Swiss kid in a position of power
i duno, apparently this is racist as well https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-65229901
It’s hard to tell if they actually feel like the ad with a literal asian dude was deliberately designed to be racist against chinese people specifically?
Chinese netizens have become increasingly sensitive to the depiction of Chinese people amid rising nationalist sentiment online.
It’s this specifically, it’s hard to tell if they genuinely believe it’s racist or if they’re just doing it to be victims
A Weibo user with more than 1 million followers accused the company of “racism against Chinese” and suggested it should be punished by regulators.
This is pretty normal, Weibo is like twitter, there’s always someone around to cry about something so it’s difficult to take seriously but I spose if your marketshare is tanking in China anyway this might not be the best move
Yeah but… that still doesn’t answer what the actual intention of a pose like that is. Like, for the make-up to showcase the nice lines and flow of it, OK. But for Swatch? It’s dark and you have to squint, like what is that even for?
Who cares? It’s an ad campaign, and they take lots of photos. They pick out ones that are appealing aesthetically. I have never seen anyone pull up the corners of their eyes like that to imitate or make fun of Chinese people. If that’s what they were going for, they did it wrong.
Downvoters, please go look in a mirror and make the slanted-eye racist gesture. Do you push your fingers up to make creases or do you pull them straight back?
Screenshot of a photo in the ad campaign for reference.
It’s a watch company. What do eyes (Asian or otherwise) have to do with their product?
are you trying to be logical about an advertisement?

same thing i guess?
maybe just striking a weird pose to get attention to the watch just below? we’ll never know
there’s another article i read about weibos being unhappy about a chinese woman who made a photo of a chinese woman with small eyes
sounds like twitter controversy to me
So you don’t think either ad is racist. Got it.
Why did you reply here? To convince us that the ad really isn’t that bad?

I thought China said that whole anti-racism thing was just western propaganda?
