In 2024, births in Russia fell to 1.22 million — the lowest level since 1999

Well duh… Who wants to bring babies into the world in Putin’s autocratic, war-happy Russia?

while deaths increased by 3.3% annually, to 1.82 million.

War-happy countries tend to have unfavorable deaths statistics.

Only if war doesn’t go well.

Even if you wanted to, it is quite hard to get your wife pregnant when you’re drafted into the army and shipped to Ukraine.

And single women want to raise a child on their own? I mean, a few do, but most would prefer help.

With Russian wages and Russian healthcare? Being a single mom and not being miserable is a Western luxury. One more reason you shouldn’t model your society on “traditional values”.

Don’t worry China has a bunch of single men because of their stupid one child policy years ago, so the two countries can just exchange.

Yeah, but most people do have their babies with their long term partner, which they want to spend the next years together.
